What is the 2019 coronavirus pandemic?

The 2019 coronavirus, abbreviated as COVID-19, is a new disease, caused by a novel coronavirus that has not previously been seen in humans. Most cases of COVID-19 are mild, causing cold or flu-like symptoms.

How does the virus spread?

According to the CDC, COVID-19 is spreading through “community spread.” Community spread means people have been infected with the virus in an area, including individuals who are not sure how they were infected. The most likely method of human-to-human transmission is through tiny droplets spread by coughing and sneezing.

What are symptoms of COVID-19?

The CDC has outlined that the symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and shortness of breath with symptoms appearing 2-14 days after exposure.

Can I visit Doctors United to get tested for coronavirus?

Doctors United is unable to test you for the coronavirus at this time. We recommend that you call 888-364-3065 to get tested. Trained personnel will come to your home. At this time, hospitals cannot run the risk of infection.

How are we ensuring all patients are safe at Doctors United?

The situation right now is very serious and we understand the magnitude of it and how patients may feel uneasy visiting doctors offices at this time. That said, we have been preparing for this pandemic for weeks by developing contingency plans. All of our staff across our 5 locations in the Bronx and Westchester are trained on how to appropriately care on the appropriate care for patients with flu-like symptoms, they’re equipped with masks and using protective equipment when it’s appropriate to do so. We are following both the guidelines put forth by the CDC and DOH to limit the spread of the virus including how we isolate patients with symptoms. We’ve also placed a greater emphasis on disinfecting rooms between patients and even disinfecting waiting rooms and receptionist desks to ensure it’s not being spread within our office. We urge all patients to make use of the hand sanitizer that’s available to them and to distance themselves as much as possible within waiting rooms.

Can I schedule a virtual appointment?

Yes. Doctors United is now offering virtual appointments to patients so they can receive a consultation from the comfort of their own home. While we are taking precautions within our offices, we want to make sure our patients can still be seen even they don’t feel like making it into an office.
